What happens when the world you trust falls apart?
When change walks in and rearranges your heart?
When yesterday’s normal becomes today’s unknown,
And suddenly, childhood feels overgrown?
Perhaps someone departed without saying goodbye,
Perhaps home changed overnight, beneath a silent sky.
Perhaps secrets emerged that you couldn’t explain,
Or a family’s fracture became your private pain.
One day you were dreaming, believing in forever,
The next, you were learning that nothing lasts ever!
You watched the adults, searching their eyes,
Trying to understand their carefully hidden lies.
The Sun wanted certainty, a place to belong,
Saturn brought endings that felt far too strong.
One asked, “Who am I when my world disappears?”
The other said, “Grow up. Don’t surrender to tears.”
And grow up you did, with a thousand unspoken fears,
Learning to read every silence, anticipate every tear.
You became alert to the slightest change,
Because what once felt familiar could suddenly rearrange.
But tell me, what happens when survival takes hold?
When a child becomes cautious, suspicious, and old?
When happiness feels fragile, when peace feels untrue,
And you wait for disaster in all that is new?
What if your deepest fear isn’t losing what’s there,
But losing it suddenly, without time to prepare?
What if you keep everyone just far enough away,
So their leaving won’t destroy you someday?
You may call it strength, this refusal to break’,
This ability to endure whatever life may take.
But strength isn’t merely the art of surviving the storm;
It’s learning that safety can take another form!
You are not the moment your childhood was changed,
Nor the person you became when your world rearranged.
You can honour the past without living in fear’,
And let tomorrow arrive without bracing for tears’.
So breathe! Let uncertainty knock at your door,
You don’t have to prepare for a loss anymore.
Not every goodbye is approaching your life,
Not every peaceful day hides the edge of a knife.
Tell me, when life changed in ways you couldn’t control,
Did loss take your childhood—or transform your soul?
