Mercury + Moon → Are you understanding people or adjusting yourself for them?

You hear things
people never say.

A pause
before an answer.

A voice becoming quieter.

A smile
that arrives a little too late.

You notice.

You understand.

Before someone tells you
they are hurt,
you have already softened your words.

Before they admit
they are uncomfortable,
you have already changed your tone.

You know what they want to hear.

And perhaps
that is your gift.

You can enter another person’s world
without making them explain
every door.

You know when to speak.

You know when to remain silent.

You know when truth
needs gentleness.

But there is another side
to being so perceptive.

You can become so familiar
with other people’s emotions
that you begin adjusting yourself
before they even ask.

Their comfort
becomes your responsibility.

Their disappointment
becomes something you must prevent.

Their approval
becomes something you quietly protect.

And little by little,

you stop asking,

“What do I feel?”

because you are already busy
asking,

“What do they need from me?”

Understanding someone
is not the same
as becoming someone
they will understand.

You can listen
without surrendering your voice.

You can be gentle
without becoming agreeable.

You can love someone
and still say,

“I see your feelings.
But this is what I feel.”

Perhaps emotional intelligence
is not knowing
how to become acceptable
to every person in the room.

Perhaps it is knowing
how to remain yourself
while still making room
for someone else’s truth.

Because sometimes
the person who reads everyone
most accurately

is the person
who has forgotten
to read themselves.

Are you understanding people—
or adjusting yourself for them?
